The other week I was asked to give the guest session in the first class of Macquarie Business School’s MBA unit on FinTech and Innovation. Macquarie is where I did my MBA. The invitation came from Associate Professor Di Bu, Founding Director of the university’s FinTech and Banking Research Centre.
The structure of the course is interesting. Each week’s session has two parts.
The first is a case study: the students hear from someone building a fintech right now and ask whatever they want.
In the second part Di does two things:
- cover the course material relating to the topic of that week; and
- use the case study as a worked example for discussing and debating that week’s topic.
So I left the industry landscape and course material to Di and took them through the decisions behind Lucie Money: what we’re creating and why; the factors behind some of our business, product and architecture decisions; and our plans for the future.
There were lots of questions, and from what I could tell it went pretty well. I wasn’t there for the second half, when the class picked it up with Di, so I have to hope it got them talking.
